In a 2008 academic paper, President Barack Obama’s appointee to head the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs advocated “cognitive infiltration” of groups that advocate “conspiracy theories” like the ones surrounding 9/11.

Cass Sunstein, a Harvard law professor, co-wrote an academic article entitled “Conspiracy Theories: Causes and Cures,” in which he argued that the government should stealthily infiltrate groups that pose alternative theories on historical events via “chat rooms, online social networks, or even real-space groups and attempt to undermine” those groups.

As head of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, Sunstein is in charge of “overseeing policies relating to privacy, information quality, and statistical programs,” according to the White House Web site.

Sunstein’s article, published in the Journal of Political Philosphy in 2008 and recently uncovered by blogger Marc Estrin, states that “our primary claim is that conspiracy theories typically stem not from irrationality or mental illness of any kind but from a ‘crippled epistemology,’ in the form of a sharply limited number of (relevant) informational sources.”

By “crippled epistemology” Sunstein means that people who believe in conspiracy theories have a limited number of sources of information that they trust. Therefore, Sunstein argued in the article, it would not work to simply refute the conspiracy theories in public — the very sources that conspiracy theorists believe would have to be infiltrated.

Sunstein, whose article focuses largely on the 9/11 conspiracy theories, suggests that the government “enlist nongovernmental officials in the effort to rebut the theories. It might ensure that credible independent experts offer the rebuttal, rather than government officials themselves. There is a tradeoff between credibility and control, however. The price of credibility is that government cannot be seen to control the independent experts.”

The Secrets of 9/11

This week, Jesse Ventura, takes on America’s most controversial Conspiracy Theory: The attacks of Sept 11th, 2001, when nearly 3,000 people were killed as the result of four hijacked planes.

According to the official 9/11 Commission Report, the worst terrorist attack in U.S. history was caused by 19 men, with ties to al-Qaeda, who set off a series of coordinated suicide attacks. Two planes crashed into the buildings of the World Trade Center, one hit the Pentagon and the fourth plane landed in a Pennsylvania field before it could reach its target in Washington, DC.

But there are still questions left unanswered, and some people suspect the report is a cover-up.

Many believe airplanes alone could not cause the Twin Towers to tumble. Does the discovery of thermite residue in the debris point to explosives being used to bring down the buildings? Why wasn’t that fact ever mentioned in the official report? The FBI claims the flight recorders from Ground Zero were never found, but one recovery worker tells Jesse a very different tale. Might those missing black boxes hold evidence that 9/11 was an inside job?

Ventura is digging deep, talking to witnesses no one has heard from, storming Hangar 17 (where 9/11 evidence is stored) and asking the U.S. government questions few have dared to ask and almost no one is willing to investigate.

A federal grand jury in New York is now hearing evidence and testimony in the 9-11 terror case, NBCNewYork.com has learned.  The Justice Deparment is moving forward in seeking an indictment against self-proclaimed 9-11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four other terror suspects.

The panel of everyday New Yorkers was convened after Attorney General Eric Holder announced the alleged 9-11 plotters would face civilian trial in New York instead of a military tribunal.  If the alleged plotters are convicted, prosecutors intend to seek the death penalty.

Justice Department spokesmen in New York and Washington declined to comment.  Spokesmen for the U.S. District Court and the FBI also would not comment.

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and the other suspects are currently being held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.  Mohammed had been indicted in New York back in 1996 for his alleged role in an al Qaeda plot to blow up U.S. airliners over the Pacific.

Other terror suspects to be sent to New York include:It is unclear if prosecutors will only seek 9-11 related charges from this grand jury.  Some experts say prosecutors could also include terror charges for the murder of Wall Street Journalreporter Daniel Pearl and other past al Qaeda attacks overseas.

Walid bin Attash who is accused of being selected as a hijacker but never made it to the United States.  Officials said he took test runs on U.S. airliners overseas and also played a role in the USS Cole attack as well as the U.S. embassy bomings in Kenya and Tanzania.

Jesse Ventura is back. The former pro wrestler, who served as Minnesota governor from 1999 to 2003, is the host of “Conspiracy Theory,” an investigative series that premieres Wednesday on truTV.

On “Conspiracy Theory,” you investigate secret societies and supposed government coverups. Such theories are everywhere, but really, what big conspiracy has ever been proven?

How can you prove it? That’s the point. The better part would be to ask, “How many of the government’s points have ever been proven?” I find what’s most interesting about doing this show is how the government will not participate or allow you in or answer any questions. We’re not allowed to question our government.

But you’re allowed to have this program, which is more than could be said about many countries.

We’re not on the air yet, are we? I never believe anything in the world of entertainment until it actually happens and the check clears the bank. I’ve had a gentleman’s bet with my crew that these shows would never air.

Originally, the show was going to show both sides of the conspiracy. But the show then evolved while we were doing it, because it’s very difficult to show both sides when one side won’t cooperate at all.

Then how can you be sure the side that does cooperate isn’t just a bunch of crackpots?

I’m not sure. But how can I be sure the government’s not?

One of the alleged coverups you investigate involves 9/11. Do you believe the terrorist attacks were an inside job?

I believe that the government has not been truthful with us about it. Yes, absolutely. That there’s massive holes in the story they’ve told. That none of these questions have ever been adequately addressed.

Saying you have doubts is different than saying you think it was an inside job.

You can’t prove anything. All evidence has been destroyed, pretty much.

Why would the government want to do such things?

Well, what changed after 9/11? We’re in two wars, passage of Patriot Act and all that. Our entire society changed that day. We’ve become paranoid. We think there’s a terrorist behind every tree. I live in Mexico half the year. And when I’m down there, for six months, I never hear the word “terrorism.” When I’m up here, I can’t go a day without hearing it.

The delegation met with complete denial from the part of the Office, practically preventing the facts introduction and a fair debate.

NASA Engineer to Speak on Destruction of WTC Buildings
Encinitas resident a leader among 900 architects and engineers

San Diego - On Wednesday, October 21, 2009, former NASA engineering executive Dwain Deets, will speak on behalf of more than 900 architects and engineers who cite evidence of explosive demolition at all three World Trade Center high-rises on 9/11 and are calling for a new, independent investigation into their destruction.

Mr. Deets’ multimedia presentation will begin at 12:00 p.m. at the Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice, on the campus of University of San Diego, 5998 Alcalá Park, San Diego, CA 92110. The event will conclude at 3:00 p.m.

An engineer with NASA Dryden Flight Research Center for more than 37 years, Mr. Deets is a board member and the writing team leader for Architects & Engineers for 9/11 Truth (AE911Truth). Comprised of more than 900 architects and engineers listed on their website at AE911Truth.org, the organization contends that the official FEMA and NIST reports fail, for several reasons, to explain correctly the towers’ destruction. AE911Truth points in particular to the destruction of the third high-rise, World Trade Center 7, which was not hit by a plane but came down in less than seven seconds. These 900 architects and engineers have signed a petition calling for a new investigation.

Mr. Deets will include in his presentation an abridged version of 9/11: Blueprint for Truth, featuring Richard Gage, AIA, a San Francisco Bay area architect of 20 years, the founder and CEO of AE911Truth, and a member of the American Institute of Architects.

The organization’s conclusions are shared by hundreds of scientists; senior-level military, intelligence, and government officials; firefighters; pilots and aviation professionals; scholars and university professors; 9/11 survivors and family members; and media professionals around the world.

In 1986, Mr. Deets was awarded the Wright Brothers Lectureship in Aeronautics by the American Institute for Aeronautics and Astronautics. He became aware of the many problems with the official reports concerning 9/11, and began speaking publicly on this topic in 2007. He and his wife have been residents of Encinitas for the past six years.

I was contacted by an individual who led me to this information about the art students living in WTC Tower 1 before 9/11. In fact, in May of 2000, they were living on the 91st floor where they were doing construction and sleeping in tents. They did have construction passes. I do believe that ACE Elevator and Securicom, as well as Kroll Associates should be focused on, however, this is important information that has never been confirmed, until now.

Transfixed as they are on complying with the instructions dripping down from headquarters, the talking heads yapping away on the TV screen resort to increasingly nonsensical statements. We have grown accustomed to the fact that the mainstream media parrots the talking points provided to them by their corporate masters. This time it is obvious the pundits have neatly formed ranks, for the law of probabilities forbids such a unified response, almost identical in all its facets.

Handed to them on a piece of paper or not, many pundits no longer require their master’s say-so. They have long since surrendered their instinct of their own accord. Years of systematic propaganda are paying off more than even their masters have foreseen. When direct orders are no longer necessary in order for the lackeys to fall in line, you know you are in a world of trouble. Besides, history teaches us that when blind compliance becomes a Pavlovian response, the tyrant laughs in his fist with glee.

Meanwhile these mostly male versions of the Stepford Wives chatter on indefinitely about non-issues and trivialities, using every trick in the book to lie, cheat and deceive. In what kind of factory, one wonders, was this breed of machine assembled?

The overall response to Charlie Sheen’s “20 minutes with the President” carries a remarkably similar tune. Obviously reading off a prewritten script, the bulk of talking heads introduce the subject (if it even does) with character assassination on the person of Charlie Sheen while completely neglecting the questions raised in the fictional dialogue.
