John Bowe: Slavery—The Dark Side of the Global Economy
Tuesday, October 02, 2007 | 7:30pm
Location: Downstairs at Town Hall, enter on Seneca Street
In Nobodies: Modern American Slave Labor and the Dark Side of the New Global Economy, John Bowe travels from the agricultural lands of Florida to a welding plant in Tulsa to the factories and brothels of Saipan to compile a first-hand report on the working conditions that corporations in the global economy depend on but do their best to ignore. Bowe, a journalist who has contributed to The New Yorker, New York Times Magazine, National Public Radio’s “This American Life,” delivers a sobering look at the moral cost of cheap goods, to which our economy has grown accustomed. Presented by the Town Hall Center for Civic Life with Elliott Bay Book Company.
